-How this Picker Works-
The Bench wool picker is used for picking wool. This is done to separate or tease the locks of wool. Some wool types may need more picking then others. Pickers can take the drudgery out of the picking task. This picker has metal points on a flat board, with a sliding assembly also with metal points that moves forward and backward to separate the fiber.
This machine passes the wool from the front to the rear, where it can drop into a container. The average person can expect to pick between 5 and 10 pounds an hour. The picker will tease, separate the ends of the locks, as well as blend wool prior to carding. This will greatly improve the ease of carding, whether by hand or by drum carder. It is also possible to spin the fibers directly from the picked condition to create an interesting and irregular texture, also dyed fibers blended together through the picker can be spun into interesting variegated yarn. We do not recommend using it to pick wool in the grease, as the seeds and vegetation will fall out more easily from washed wool. While some debris may fall out during picking, grass and burrs will not. The picker's purpose is to open the wool to prepare it for carding, or for spinning direct from the picked condition.
The Bench Wool Picker has 424 angled stainless steel points that DO NOT RUST, and are great for most wools and fine fibers.
The Wool Picker is made from sanded North American red oak and red oak veneers and is ready for whatever finish you wish to apply, if any.
-SAFETY-
Please treat this picker with GREAT RESPECT and take the appropriate care when using it. Never use this picker when children are in the immediate area. Use the same care you would use with any dangerous cutting device. PLEASE DON’T PURCHASE OUR PICKER UNLESS YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL ENSURE ITS SAFE USE AND LOCKED STORAGE.
We accept no responsibility for any damage or injury attributed to the wool picker. In addition, for your safety, we recommend wearing leather gloves.
