We at She and I Designs are proud to offer the "Fancy Kitty" brand fiber drum carders. Our carders were designed by avid spinners, knitters, and crocheters. All our products are hand crafted in our family workshops in the good old USA.
Our Kitten drum carders feature fully adjustable drums mounted on steel axles with sealed steel ball bearings on both the swift and licker-in for silky smooth lubrication-free operation. They have 1 x 3/8 aluminum handles for flex free turning strength. They are built using modern methods, quality parts, and hand crafted care. The drums come pre-adjusted for optimum performance; however, they can be easily readjusted for your varying requirements.
The Kitten Wide has a 4 to 1 drive ratio. It features a polybelt drive that does not slip, for smooth operation. It has 1/2" long carder wire giving you the ability to produce thick batts. It is 15" in length, 20" wide, and weighs approximately 17 pounds. Kitten drum carders are made from 100% North American Red Oak hardwoods. The slide out feed tray is made from one quarter inch hardwood veneer.
The Kitten Wide drum carders have a wonderful Tung Oil finish.
This drum carder is dressed with solid brass strips and all adjustment screws are stainless steel or zinc plated for a long and rust free life. It has a huge 17" wide drum that will produce batts 22" long.
We are currently offering various choices of TPI carding cloth for the licker-in and also various choices TPI cloth on the swift. This allows you to choose the TPI carding cloth that best meets your personal fiber carding needs. This option is selected from a drop down menu when you add this item to your cart.
Rubber non-skid feet, one hold-down clamp (that is installed with a zinc plated steel screw, set in a brass insert), and a bit to fit the adjustment screws are included with the carder. With the exception of the screw-on handle, it will arrive fully assembled and ready to use at no extra charge.

Big Tom XL features a 17" wide, 12" tall swift equipped with your choice of tpi carding cloth and creates a batt 17 inches wide and 38" long. The Licker-in is equipped with coordinating tpi carding cloth. It features not one, but two gear head motors that can be individually adjusted for speed, and they are both reversible. One motor runs the licker-in, the second motor runs the swift. This means you don't just have one or two carding ratios, you have infinite control of the feed to card ratio, from extremely slow to fast on either the licker-in or swift.
The power is transferred to both drums via a tooth belt pully and belt system that is as strong as the chain drive, but quiet and requires no maintenance.
Both axles run in sealed ball bearings for super smooth & maintenance free operation. The Big Tom XL also provides extra space between the drum and the carder frame, for easy removal of any fiber that gets caught in the crevice.
It comes with a brush attachment as standard equipment. All "Tom" carders come with a thorough instruction manual, 8x3" burnishing brush, doffer hook, and several other handy tools (pictured above) for your convenience. The Big Tom XL now has a wider space between the carding drum and the carder frame to allow more space for removing any tangled, errant fiber.
We offer an auxiliary drum assembly that can be changed by removing and re-installing the four swift adjusting screws. It is an option available in the following available cloth densities, 54, 72, 90, and 120 tpi. This means you can card any type of fiber with ONE drum carder.

The carders will accept voltages of 90v- 270V and 50 or 60 hz, but will require a plug adaptor to change the plug from the North American style to the European style electrical plug.
For those of you living off the grid - the carder will operate from 12v DC with a very slight modification and pull less than 100 watts at maximum speed.
